After the Fires: Helping LA recover
Headington Institute is working alongside nonprofit organizations and community groups engaged in LA wildfire response and recovery, equipping them with mental health and resilience-building strategies to support their teams and sustain long-term recovery efforts.

Overview
Wildfires disrupt communities on every level, but the long-term recovery process depends on more than rebuilding homes and infrastructure. Nonprofit organizations, community groups, and volunteers play a central role in coordinating aid, restoring essential services, and supporting those affected – often while navigating operational challenges and sustained exposure to crisis. The emotional and psychological demands of disaster recovery are significant, requiring structured support to ensure the well-being, effectiveness, and longevity of those leading these efforts.
The LA Community Resilience Project, led by Headington Institute with grant-funded support from Americares, is delivering specialized support, evidence-based resources, and peer support frameworks tailored to the realities of disaster recovery work. By equipping organizations with practical strategies to mitigate stress, strengthen workforce resilience, and prevent long-term burnout, we aim to ensure that recovery efforts remain sustainable and effective.
