After nearly 25 years of service, the Headington Institute will conclude all programs and services as of December 19, 2025.
Since its founding in 2001, Headington Institute has worked across 146 countries to strengthen resilience and mental health for professionals and organizations operating in high-stress and crisis environments. Drawing on decades of research in neuroscience and trauma, the Institute has provided evidence-based interventions to humanitarian workers, disaster responders, public servants, and many others serving in demanding and often dangerous contexts.
This decision follows careful consideration by the Board of Directors in light of the financial and operational realities facing many nonprofits today, including our own. Like many organizations in the humanitarian and nonprofit sectors, Headington has experienced increased financial pressures in recent years. At the same time, many of the partners we serve are also facing reduced budgets and shifting funding priorities, making it more difficult for them to access services like ours at the scale they once did. Together, these factors have created a challenging environment for sustaining our work, and after exploring multiple options, the Board concluded that ending services and operations at this time was the most responsible course of action.
While the Headington Institute will conclude its programs and services, the Headington Institute Foundation, which was established in 2020 to support the Institute’s mission, will continue operating and transition into a grant-making organization. This change will allow the Foundation to carry forward the Institute’s mission by empowering other organizations to provide critical support to those on the frontlines.
As we bring this chapter to a close, we want to express our deep gratitude to all who have been part of Headington Institute’s journey over nearly a quarter of a century. We thank our dedicated staff and associates whose skill and commitment have defined our work. We thank our partners who have trusted our expertise and collaborated with us to bring resilience support to some of the most challenging environments in the world. We thank the donors and individuals whose generosity has sustained our mission.
Together, we have supported the professionals and organizations who, in turn, have been able to support the communities they serve. This ripple effect has reached across continents wherever crisis and disaster have struck, and we are deeply proud of what has been accomplished collectively.
With deep appreciation,
The Board of Directors, Headington Institute
