A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT ...
Dear friends,
I’m writing to share some good news and invite you to join us in completing a wonderful project.
We are developing an interactive, online training module on humanitarian work and personal spirituality. It will be the first of its kind, and it’s badly needed. Most humanitarian workers are at least partly motivated by spiritual qualities or ideals such as beliefs about meaning and purpose, what it means to love and serve others, and compassion for those in need. For many, personal spirituality is an integral part of deciding to become a humanitarian worker. But what most humanitarian workers don’t fully anticipate is that over time, as they are confronted with troubling questions and spiritual paradoxes, their work will also challenge their spirituality.
This training resource will help humanitarian workers explore how their beliefs and their work are interacting and shaping each other by identifying spiritual challenges and concepts and tools that can help them thrive.
Eight free online training modules are already being used by helpers around the world. More than 25,000 people visit our website each month, and 75% of them download our training materials. They typically come from 80 or more countries, most of which are in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East. We regularly receive emails from those who found these resources useful for maintaining their wellbeing, and we are eager to complete and publish this ninth module.
A donor has provided a challenge matching grant that will double all gifts received for this project, the cost of which is $25,000. We are grateful for this offer – now we need to raise the rest!
Please consider joining us in this effort by sending a gift to support the completion of this valuable resource, “Personal spirituality and humanitarian work: Maintaining your vitality.”
Thanks for all you do to encourage our efforts to help helpers worldwide.
